Boothby, William

The 4th Baron of Broadlaw and 13th Baron of Cobham, William was born on 4th May 1721, and inherited the baronetcy on the death of his grand-father in 1731. He was the son of Gore Boothby (24th July 1698 – August 1730) and Elizabeth (nee Bury). He gained the rank of Captain in 1741 and, in 1760 with the rank of Colonel, was in service with the 63rd Regiment of Foot. He was Master of the Horse to HRH Duke of York in 1761. In 1764 he was Colonel of the 50th Regiment of Foot, and then, in 1773, of the 6th Regiment of Foot. He gained the rank of Major General in 1783, and died, unmarried, in 1787.
