Isabella was the daughter of Elizabeth and Samuel Lane. Lane had been the Collector of Customs at the Port of King’s Lynn, Norfolk. Elizabeth died the 9th. April 1832 aged 79. Isabella died on 26th November 1826 in her 36th year. Elizabeth and Samuel also had a son, who in turn was named Samuel and who was an English portrait painter. Samuel junior was born in King’s Lynn on 26th July 1780 and after a childhood accident became deaf and partially dumb. He studied under Joseph Farington and then under Sir Thomas Lawrence who employed him as an assistant. Samuel first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1804, secured a large practice, and was a constant contributor for more than fifty years, sending in all 217 works. He lived in London at 60 Greek Street, Soho, until 1853, and then retired to Ipswich; he sent his last contribution to the Academy on 1857. He died in Ipswich on 29th July 1859.
