Madan, Martin

Martin Madan was educated at Westminster College and then at Trinity College, Cambridge. He was a Captain in the Coldstream Guards in 1717, a Major in the Dragoon Guards in 1734 and a Lt Col in 1742. He commanded his regiment at Dettingen (1743) and at Fontenoy (1745) before becoming Equerry to the Prince of Wales in 1736, and then Groom to the Prince in 1749. He was a Member of Parliament for Wootton Bassett from 1747 to 1754. He died from gout.
