Norton, Ambrose

Ambrose Norton was a major in the Duke of St Alban’s regiment at the time of the Glorious Revolution of 1688 and he wrote an eyewitness account of the defection of Lord Cornbury. ¬†Norton married the authoress, Lady Frances Norton as his third wife and as her second husband, in 1718. Lady Frances married, firstly, (in 1672) Sir George Norton (first cousin to Ambrose), until his death in 1715. Ambrose died in 1723 and a year later Lady Frances married, thirdly, William Jones. She outlived her third husband and died on 20th February 1790, aged 90. She is buried in Westminster Abbey.
