Ryder, Nathaniel of Harrowby

Nathaniel Ryder was educated at Clare College, Cambridge and was elected to the House of Commons for Tiverton in 1756, a seat he held until 1776. On 20th May 1776 he was raised to the peerage as Baron Harrowby of Harrowby in Lincolnshire; he later served as Deputy Lieutenant of Staffordshire and of Lincolnshire. His eldest son became 1st Earl of Harrowby. His second son was a politician and served as Foreign Secretary. His youngest son became Bishop of Gloucester and later Bishop of Lichfield.
