Stibbs, John

Born about 1635, John Stibbs became a baker, but also had an interest in various inns, including the Unicorn, the Rose & Crown in Westgate Street, and the Royal Oak in Broad Street, he also had a property in Southgate Street.

His association with the city council included being a councilman (1669 – 1683), constable (1669 – 1670), bailiff (1672 – 1673), chamberlain (1681 – 1684), alderman (November 1683 – 1709), mayor (1685 – 1686, 1698 – 1699 and 1707 – 1708), and JP (1686 – 1687, 1693 – 1694, 1699 – 1700, 1703 – 1703, 1705 – 1706, and 1708 – 1709).
